So I have this pair of jeans. I love them. I got them a few years ago for $20 at Old Navy and, truth be told, I regretted buying them a week later. I must have been bloated when I got them because they were too big and just didn't fit right like they had in the dressing room.

I ran out of clean pants one day and so put them on with a t-shirt and Converse and ran out the door without even looking in the mirror. I felt gross the entire day because I thought I looked horrible in them. Then my friend posted pictures from that night and I realized that I didn't look as bad as I thought I did! The jeans then became part of my regular rotation and were elevated to "favorite pair" sometime last year.

When I got to DC, I of course brought them along. I also have lost weight these past three months. As I mentioned, these jeans were big on me from the get-go but I could normally get by with just wearing a belt with them. Now, I can still wear them with a belt but the fit is changing and I'm not happy about it.

I know that it's time for me to update my jean wardrobe, but I just know that I will never find a pair of jeans like these! Especially for so cheap! And especially because Old Navy revamped their entire jean line a few months after. I'm almost tempted to coerce my mom into taking them apart and modifying the pattern (so they would actually fit) and then just buying denim and sewing them myself.

I guess, in some ways, I am a feminist.
I try not to judge. Really, I do. Give what you want to get, right? But when your makeup is that overdone and your boobs are hanging out of your shirt that much and I can see your cooch as plain as day, no matter if it's clothed or not, I will judge you. Hard. If you treat yourself as an object, how do you think other people are going to treat you?

Sitting in the living room, watching The Wedding Singer, eating cheese curds and drinking a Spotted Cow with my best friends. I love this place sfm!

Coaxed the apartment to watch Blind Dating last night and OMG. Chris Pine is not Italian no matter what, but the movie was so cute! And definitely lol-tastic. The "running free" part at the beginning was awesome.

Wedding in a few hours - bottle of Boones Farm in between - reception will be amazing. :D

Things I realized today:

- Veteran's Day is a federal holiday. I intern in a federal office. Therefore, I don't have to work on Wednesday! WOOHOO!
- Tax policy is simultaneously fascinating and boring (yeah, I can't figure it out either ... )
- I have five weeks left in DC. FIVE WEEKS! Please don't let it end. Please?
- I'm flying on Friday the 13th. Mother Effer.

Yep, that's it. Oh, except I'm super tired for absolutely no reason at all. I have been for the past few days. Saturday, I chalked it up to the glass of wine I had, but there's no excuse for yesterday or today. I really hope I'm not getting sick.

Attended oral arguments at the Supreme Court yesterday: Shady Grove v. Allstate

As much as I may disagree with her judicial philosophy, Sonia Sotamayor is pretty freakin' amazing. Comparing her presence on the Court yesterday to Sam Alito's (he definitely fell asleep in the middle of the respondent's arguments), it was obvious who was the better pick. Ruthie kicked some ass, too, with her questions.

After lunch, we met with Ed Meese which was also pretty cool. I called my parents afterward and they started freaking out that i met someone from the Reagan Administration. God, I love DC!

Internship tomorrow, Pentagon tour on Thursday - all I need to do is meet Aaron Schock and this will be THE PERFECT week.

I'm going to a Halloween party on Saturday night. Problem is: I don't have a costume. Second problem: I don't want to spend a whole lot of money. Ideas?

Last year I was Sarah Palin and a geologist (I went to two different costume parties). The year before that, I was a Mod Girl with 60s-style make-up and a houndstooth newsboy cap. The year before that, I was Ginger Spice, complete with red wig and super short leather mini-skirt.

Normally I have enough clothes and creativity to just raid my closet and throw something together, but that was before I moved to DC (leaving about half my normal clothes at home) and before suits and internship clothes became the vast majority of my wardrobe.

I don't really want a fandom costume because no one that's going to be at this party even knows what fandom is, I'm assuming. Also, it's a bunch of PoliSci geeks - there will probably be a good number of political costumes without me dressing as Palin again. Any help would be much, much appreciated.

Many countries require all citizens to fulfill a mandatory period of service in the armed forces. Do you agree or disagree with this policy? Do you think the current recruitment system creates or sustains socioeconomic inequality?

I think it's a good policy in general, but it would never work in the US. The United States prides itself on being a free nation with a government that respects the choices of the individual. Regardless of whether you believe the nation is succeeding in that mission, mandatory social service is in direct conflict with that freedom. The United States' all-volunteer army is what makes it unique! Yes, the majority of foot soldiers are middle and lower income, but the same social-stratification is present in any business in America. It's a part of capitalism. Love it or leave it, yo.

People I have seen on Metro/MetroBus this week:

- fat!Leonard Nimoy (again)
- girl!Bones (short brown hair, adorable hazel eyes, semi-grumpy expression - I like to think she got off at Med Center, since she was going in the opposite direction of GW hospital but she wasn't in scrubs, so who knows?)
- a Barbie doll law student and her classmate (I just couldn't take her seriously, despite overhearing her spout all these laws and regulations)
- the cutest German Dad and his son riding to school/work together (the Dad works at Kaiser Permanente downtown)
- a less socially awkward Sheldon Cooper look-alike (although he kept pulling up his socks ... neurotic, much?)

Part of me wants to head down to Georgetown today to do some shopping, but it's so crappy and cold and rainy outside. I think I'll just finish reading Thank You For Smoking, perhaps catch up on FlashForward, and apply for [info]new_voyages. Yep, that sounds like a productive day.
